n. Ban Thai. The traditional Thai house, generally made of wood, is a compound unit built on stilts and with a gabled roof. The central building is divided by pillars into 2-3 sections. The units to the left and right are known as 'ho ri' (หอรี) while the adjacent building is known as 'ho khwang' (หอขวาง). There is also an open extension used for leisure and relaxation.
